Together in Kyoto
With the sensitivity characteristic of the people and communities of Kyoto ...
We will develop and grow into the future through the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival.
At the Festival, we will create together the future of films, arts, traditional crafts and new media
Over the last two years, the“ Kyoto International Film and Art Festival” has been held with the theme of“ Films, Art and Everything Else”, while still maintaining the traditions and aspirations behind the “Kyoto Film Festival”.
With our third “2016 Kyoto International Film and Art Festival”, we have further broadened our interest into a wide variety of fields, including of course, film, video and art,to create a new culture which can be enjoyed by the people of Kyoto and everyone that loves Kyoto. We look to develop a future-leaning festival, with the unique backdrop of this city in which film has evolved out of its historical landscape and traditional crafts and arts; where there is respect for historical performances and the spirit that is at the core of the people that live here.
At our next festival, we look forward to further expanding the scale of our film festival, with a renewed recognition of “Kyoto, the origin of Japanese movies”.
We will take advantage of the people, technologies and experience unique to Kyoto, while developing a new film culture which car r ies on our tradition of culture and entertainment, and shares this throughout Japan and the world, including the Asian region.
When we took our first steps with the first edition of this new style of film festival to include films, art and everything, we very much had to feel our way.
The“ 2015 Kyoto International Film and Art Festival” saw a festival which seamlessly mixed digital, traditional crafts and science content, which was all enjoyed by the people and lovers of Kyoto. As we head into our third festival, we look forward to achieving great results and further promoting our festival of“ Films, Art and Everything Else” as we present it from Kyoto to the World.
